Environmental Statement

From it’s inception 18 years ago, Rumber has been "green". Before "green" was a fad and way before it became mainline, Rumber was conceived to use recycled rubber and plastic bottle feedstock as it’s only components. In addition, the manufacturing process creates zero smokestack emissions as there is no smokestack involved! And although the "gas off" factor has not been scientifically measured, field reports indicate that the "gas off" factor is nil. Rather than the stinging vapors and smelly odors associated with ‘composite’ products that often use formaldehyde as the bonding agent, Rumber emits no noxious odors or vapors. It’s components are bonded by heat alone.

The manufacturing process is incredibly simple as well as incredibly closely –held. In summary, buffings from discarded tires are brought into the plant where all the non-rubber ingredients are meticulously removed. In different ratios, the reclaimed rubber is mixed with ground plastic particles. The plastic particles are 100% post-consumer and 100% post-industrial waste. The plastic particles are all #2 HDPE….High Density Polyethylene. Most of the Rumber products are a 60/40% mix of recycled rubber to plastic with some at 20/80% and others at 5/95%. After the mix is electrically heated to a molten state, it is extruded through a die and cooled in a patented process that allows it to retain it’s shape for years to come.

The use of Rumber is a solid, direct link in the recycling chain. For recycling to be viable, there has to be a demand for products made from recycled content, or "RCP’s" (Recycled Content Products). Rumber is such a RCP and represents an attractive alternative to wood in all the "old school" applications. From trans-portation to industrial to commercial to architectural to recreational and more, Rumber is a 21st -century solution to durable materials’ demands and dilemmas. In short, Rumber Beats Lumber. It’s important to note that, not only does the use of Rumber help to relieve our landfill waste situation, but it is better than the virgin product it replaces (wood). Moreover, the use of Rumber substitutes a RCP in place of harvested wood products. Many times, Rumber can be used in place of Apitong or Keruing, both of which are tropical hardwoods. Apitong and Keruing are harvested from the rainforests of Malaysia: thus, the use of Rumber helps preserve the planet’s rainforests!
